The ophthalmic community was shocked by the sudden loss of Professor Ramin Tadayoni, MD, PhD. Prof. Tadayoni was well known internationally for his leadership in retinal surgery and ophthalmic education, and he was a revered mentor and friend. His vision for advancing research and advocating for funding changes resonated deeply with colleagues and peers.
Prof. Tadayoni was the head of the ophthalmology department at the Fondation Adolphe de Rothschild and the Lariboisière and Saint-Louis University Hospitals in Paris; a professor of ophthalmology at the University of Paris; and former head of the retina department at Cochin Hospital in Paris. He was also the director of the new French Institute of Myopia, and he was currently serving as president of the European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA). He was also a member of the Retinal Physician editorial board, where his insights and expertise were invaluable to the success of the publication (read his January 2024 discussion on the BALATON and COMINO trials here).
"It is with intense grief that the retina community mourns the untimely loss of a world-renowned, compassionate, and gifted retina specialist this past weekend," said Peter K. Kaiser, MD, the Chaney Family Endowed Chair in Ophthalmology Research and a professor of ophthalmology at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, and editor in chief of Retinal Physician. "To all who knew Ramin, he was the consummate gentleman, educator, surgeon, and close friend. With his infectious smile, he was always ready to assist in any capacity. Having served on numerous boards with Ramin, his keen intellect and ability to bridge divides will be irreplaceably missed. The ripples of his loss will be felt throughout the world of retina. I will miss you terribly, my good friend. Until we meet again, we all raise a glass of your favorite Bordeaux wine to celebrate all that you meant to us and how much we already miss you.”
