The European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA) will once again provide an award in memory of the late retina specialist Professor Ramin Tadayoni. The award, intended to recognize exceptional retina research and support emerging talent, will include a €30,000 ($34,100) grant for research support and an additional €5,000 ($5,700) personal grant for the recipient.

The award commemorates the legacy of Prof. Tadayoni, who passed away unexpectedly in April 2024. He served in key roles across Europe, including at the Rothschild Foundation Hospital and University Paris-Cité, and was a prolific contributor to ophthalmic research with more than 320 publications. The award is supported by Oculis Holding AG, for whom Prof. Tadayoni served as chief scientific officer. He also was president of EURETINA and a former editorial board member of Retinal Physician.
“We are proud to continue the establishment of the Ramin Tadayoni Award for a second year, honoring the memory of an extraordinary individual whose legacy continues to shape the future of retinal research and care,” said Anat Loewenstein, MD, president of EURETINA, in a press release. “This award stands as a tribute to Prof. Tadayoni’s remarkable contributions to ophthalmology and to his role as a mentor and deeply respected colleague.”
“Prof. Tadayoni’s impact on the field of ophthalmology and our pipeline remains profound,” noted Oculis CEO Riad Sherif. “Through this award, we carry forward his passion for scientific excellence, education, and patient-centered innovation.”
Last year, Dr. Andrea Govetto of Milan, received the 2024 Ramin Tadayoni Award for his research into macular edema using computational modeling. Applications for the 2025 award are open through May 12, with the recipient to be announced at the EURETINA Congress in Paris this September. RP
