A recent study has demonstrated that ChatGPT-4, when prompted for simplified explanations, may serve as a valuable online resource for educating uveitis patients. The findings suggest that ChatGPT-4 could provide a reliable, user-friendly alternative for patients seeking clear, accurate information about uveitis, potentially improving patient education outcomes.
Dual-trained specialists in uveitis and retina compared ChatGPT-4’s responses to information from eight major patient education websites, including the Mayo Clinic, WebMD, and the National Eye Institute. In total the specialists graded 497 entries, assessing accuracy, comprehensiveness, and readability. ChatGPT-4’s standard responses were favored for their comprehensiveness, with similar accuracy to website content. Simplified responses from the artificial intelligence matched nearly all websites in terms of preference and clarity. Readability indices revealed that ChatGPT-4's simplified answers were more accessible to the average reader, requiring a lower educational level than many existing websites. The study was published in Ophthalmology Science.
