Alcon announced the initial commercial launch of the Unity M ophthalmic surgical microscope in select markets including the United States and Japan followed by Europe. The microscope is the latest addition to Alcon's Unity platform, combining advanced optics, novel illumination, improved ergonomics, and intuitive usability in a modular design that enables practice-specific customization and future scalability, the company said in a press release.

According to Alcon, Unity M offers surgical precision through advanced visualization technologies designed to provide stable, consistent views throughout surgery.Unity M features a red reflex zone that is designed to remain stable as the eye moves, helping surgeons maintain visualization across pupil sizes and microscope positions. The microscope also features Color Tunable Illumination to deliver sharp contrast and tissue detail, and an optimized depth of field for ophthalmology, supporting uninterrupted visualization of structures as the eye shifts during surgery.

In addition, Unity M features a modular architecture that allows surgeons to tailor the system to their clinical needs. Both anterior and posterior segment surgeons can configure the platform with purpose-built optimizations and adopt modular upgrades over time, the company said in the press release. 

According to Alcon, Unity M is designed for current and future integration with the company's ecosystem of products, digital innovations, and services. Unity M is the third addition to the Unity platform, following Unity VCS and Unity CS. Unity M has received CE Mark and regulatory approvals in India, Europe, Canada, Japan, and the US, with inventory beginning to ship in September.
